Just finished going over the IS-IS material in my BSCI prep. What can I say, I hate memorizations, and I wonder why IS-IS is still part of the CCNP curriculum even though its been taken off from the CCIE exams.
Next topics: EIGRP and BGP.
Hopefully, I can get all the labs and studying done in the next 2 weeks to start off on IPv6, Multicast and IOS Routing features.

OSPF Lab Issue

So, while doing an OSPF lab, ran into a little bit of an issue. I’ve got a 3 router setup , hub and spokes. All routers have their loopbacks as their router#’s, e.g. R1′s loopback 1.1.1.1 /32 , and so on. All loopbacks are in different areas, e.g. loopback for Router 2 (2.2.2.2) in Area 2. All serial interfaces are in Area 0.
OSPF has been configured, and I can ping from R1<-> R2, R1<->R3, R2<-> R1, R3<-> R1 using their loopbacks, but I can ping R2 <-> R3 using their loopbacks.
Here’s my configs on all routers:

Trying to figure out why I can’t ping loopbacks from R2<->R3 and vice-versa.

EDIT: Figured it out. I forgot to put the statement:
ip ospf network point-to-multipoint
on the s0/0 interfaces participating in the FR cloud.

CCNP Lab

I finally configured the lab for my CCNP. Right now as I work on BSCI, this is what I’ve got setup, 4 Cisco 3640′s running 12.4 (I’ve borrowed sample’s from how Chris Bryant‘s lab is setup. I bought his BSCI study material a couple of month’s ago and am barely getting to work.
I’ve configured one of the 3640′s to run as a frame relay switch.

Cisco Lab

So far I’ve been happy with the outcome.
Oh also, I was able to scrap a Cisco 2950 as the workgroup switch which connects to R2,R3 and the Frame switch.

My first post for 2009, I haven’t posted here in a while now. Going to ramp up my BSCI study schedule. Purchased the BSCI study guide from Chris Bryant.
One of the other resolutions for this year, going to loose some weight, treadmill, etc. diets are not working for me that well. I love food and especially when working at a NOC, the choice for good food really dwindles down to either going to crapdonalds or taco smell.

Work Snafu

I work at a NOC and monitor/troubleshoot the IP infrastructure backbone. Today, I saw some OSPF alarms come in from a couple of Cisco devices in Netcool. Strangely enough on logging into some, I just saw OSPF events. Normally, you would see an interface go up and down followed by OSPF events, or even worse, a device being hard down. So I call the tier 2 engineer to have him take a look and IM’s me some odd minutes later stating that a port was flapping on one of the devices I was logged in and started preaching about how OSPF events don’t occur on their own. Jeez, it was the most ridiculous conversation I had with him. I mean, I know how OSPF works, I might not be a Cisco Jedi but don’t down talk me. I hate when people do that. Its retarded.

IOGear USB to Serial

Just got my IOGear USB to Serial converter cable to console into my home lab routers/switches. This thing is slick. I followed the how-to on this page. I use a Macbook Pro as my primary notebook and the thing does not have a serial com port on it.

Instead of using Zterm though, I just fire up terminal and type in screen /dev/tty.usbserial 9600 which works flawlessly.
